I need an ID number and PIN to view my billing statement online. Where can I find my ID number and PIN?
The ID number may be found printed on your schedule of classes. The PIN number is initially set as your birth date formatted as MMDDYY. In the event that we do not have your birth date, your PIN is set as the last six digits of your ID number.

When is my payment due?
Payment is due by the payment deadline each semester which is approximately 2 weeks before the start of each term. Unpaid balances are subject to a late payment fee of $30 if the payment deadline is missed.

Can my parent/guardian or employer receive my billing statement?
Yes, a student may grant access to an unlimited amount of people to the billing statement through the University's electronic billing system. Authorized persons must have a valid e-mail account. A billing system brochure is available online that can guide you through the billing and payment system.

Where can I cash a check?
Students may cash personal checks up to $50.00 per day in the Accounting Office, Esch 151. Students may also cash UIndy payroll checks in any amount in the Accounting Office. Students must present a valid UIndy ID card to use this service.

Where can I cash my refund check?
The Fifth Third Bank located on the west end of campus on Shelby Street will cash a UIndy refund check with a UIndy student ID card and a valid driver's license.

Do I have to pay a tuition or housing deposit?
Any student enrolled in an undergraduate day class in the fall semester must pay an advance tuition deposit of $100.00. Certain graduate programs also require an advance deposit. Student's planning to live in campus housing must also pay an additional $50.00 deposit to reserve a room. Deposits will appear as an advance payment on the fall billing statement. In the event a student decides not to attend UIndy or cancels a housing contract, the deposit may be forfeited.

What is the 1098-T statement?
Beginning in January 1, 1998, taxpayers may be eligible to claim a credit against federal income taxes for qualified tuition and related expenses of each student in the taxpayer's family who is enrolled at least half-time and enrolled in an eligible educational institution. The 1098-T form is an informational form that is distributed to students in January to help determine eligibility for the tax credit. If you have questions about the tax credit you should contact a qualified tax professional or contact the IRS Taxpayer Assistance line at 1-800-829-1040. You may also find helpful information about the Tax Relief Act on the IRS web site http://www.irs.gov .

Are there payment plans available if I can't pay my bill in full?
Yes, the Accounting Office offers a deferment plan in which you may pay one half of your bill at the beginning of the term or session and defer the other one-half for 4 weeks. There is a $40 fee for this deferment. A late fee of $20 is assessed each month payment is not made. A deferment form is available on the Bursar's website. The form must be completed by the student and returned to the Bursar's Office with payment by the Wednesday before a term or session begins. For students that need more than one or two payments the TuitionPay Plan offered through Sallie Mae offers up to 10 payments for both Semester I and Semester II or 5 payments for one semester. What is the tuition and housing charge for Spring Term?
If you have been enrolled full-time during Semester I and II of the academic year, have no unpaid balance with the university, and have never taken a Spring Term course, you pay no tuition. If you have been enrolled part time during the current academic year or have taken a Spring Term course in a prior term tuition is assessed at one half the hourly day division rate (in 2007 – 2008 this rate is $407 per hour). Travel courses do not require tuition payment; students must pay the travel fees listed in the course description. If you have lived in a residence hall during both Semester I and II, you may continue living in the residence hall while enrolled in the Spring Term course. There is no additional cost for living in the residence hall unless you have already taken a spring term course. If you have already taken a Spring Term course, the 2006-2007 room and board cost was $550.

What is the refund deadline for dropped classes?
The 100% refund deadline for individually dropped classes is the first Friday of each semester. After the first week of the semester refunds are calculated only upon complete withdrawal from the University. The refund rate drops daily for complete withdrawal through the eighth week of the semester. A Refund Brochure if available for viewing on the Bursar's Web site.

What is the charge for credit hours over 18 in a semester?
Every hour over 18 will be assessed at one-half the hourly day rate (in 2007 – 2008 this rate is $407 per hour).

Is there a fee for a returned check?
The University will assess the student a $20.00 returned check fee in the event a check is returned. If two checks have been returned, the student will be prohibited from using this service in the future.

What will happen if I don't pay my bill by the due date?
Students who do not make satisfactory payment arrangements will be dropped from their classes. The student may be reinstated in classes on a space available basis after satisfactory payment arrangements have been made with the Bursar's Office and with the approval of the Registrar's Office. A late payment fee of $30.00 will be assessed.

When will I receive a billing statement?
Billing statements will be forwarded to students' UIndy e-mail accounts two to four weeks prior to the start of a term. Thereafter, statements will be e-mailed on a weekly basis until the beginning of the term. A link will be included in the e-mail message that will allow easy access to the online bill payment system where a student may view, pay, or print a statement. The student may also add an unlimited number of authorized users to the system. An authorized user will have access only to a student's billing information.
